Undergraduate Admission

A) Admission rules for undergraduate students. To apply for the programs of Applied Statistics or Statistics and Operations Research, the student is required to meet the general requirements of the “College of Science”.

B) Minor specializations available for the students of the faculty

  1. For students majoring in Applied Statistics or Statistics and Operations Research:

The student has the freedom of choice of any minor in the university after obtaining the acceptance of the Department of Statistics and Operations Research.

 

  1. For students wishing to minor in Statistics & Operations Research:
    1. Number of Mandatory Credits: Students are required to complete 5 Compulsory Courses (total of 15 credits):
      • Introduction to probability (210):            3 credits
      • Statistical Methods (240):             3 credits
      • Operations Research I (250):            3 credits
      • Statistical Computing I  (260):            3 credits
    2. Elective credits: The student may choose any 3 courses (total of 9 credits) from the Statistics and Operations Research department :
      • Sampling Methods (343):              3 credits
      • Theory of Statistics II (421): 3credits   
      • National and International (330):           3credits   
      • Quality Control (331): 3credits  
      • Non-Parametric Statistics (340):           3credits  
      • Statistical Computing II (335):           3credits  

                       

  1. Minor in Applied Statistics:
  2. Number of Mandatory Credits: Students are required to complete 3 Compulsory Courses (total of 9 credits):
    • Introduction to probability (210):            3 credits

  3. Elective credits: The student may choose any 5 courses (total of 15 credits) from the Statistics and Operations Research department :

    • Non-Parametric Statistics (340):   3 credits

Students are required to complete 4 Compulsory Courses (total of 12 credits):

  • Introduction to probability (210):   3 credits

  • Operations Research I (250):   3 credits
  • iv Operations Research II (350):             3 credits

 

Elective credits: 

The student may choose any 4 courses (total of 12 credits) from the Statistics and Operations Research department:

  • Quality Control (331):               3 credits  
  • Simulation I (351):                    3 credits
  • Linear Programming (351):               3 credits
  • Decision Analysis (411):              3 credits
  • Queuing Systems (450):               3 credits
  • Networks (451):                        3 credits
  • Reliability (452):                        3 credits
  • Scheduling (454):                     3 credits
  • Optimization (456):                  3 credits 

 

C) Rules for transferring to the Department of Statistics & Operations Research

(applied statistics or statistics and operations research majors) form other faculty of science majors

  • The student’s GPA must not be less than (C), 2.00 points.
    • The student has to have at least (C), 2.00 points in Principles of Statistics (101).
    • The student has to have completed the following courses:
      • 101 Calculus A
      • English 161
    • Students must also meet the department of statistics and operations research admission requirements for undergraduate students enrolled under the general major of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. (These requirements are stated in part A above).

       

Note: For statistics and operations research students that wish to transfer between the two specializations of the department, the student must not be on probations list.
